Air transport in Guinea

State of play

The difficulty of road traffic into the country has always promoted the development of air transport in Guinea. However, it was during the 1980s that this activity had been a significant revival. Indeed, traffic to the outside has become much more than that to the interior, thanks to the installation of the Hub of the defunct Air Guinea.
With new guidelines adopted by the Government and its ambition to create a national company, to support and encourage the creation of private companies, air travel is expected to improve through the development of tourism and economic activities.

  • The national network is very low
  • The international network: regular flights, cargo flights, charter and private flights

At the freight level, there’s a steady increase in the volume transported since 1984.
Around 14 airline companies connect the Guinea to the world.
In addition to regular companies that combine passenger transport to freight transport, there are special flights often transport cargo. DHL exclusively carries cargo and mail which greatly strengthens the capacity in terms of freight traffic sector. In terms of charter and private flights, many companies make available to their public flights for medical evacuations or custom flights either inwards, to Africa and to Europe.

Airport infrastructures

Guinea has 5 international airports:

  • Conakry Airport
  • Kankan Airport

While Conakry airport receives most of the international traffic. Its operation has been entrusted by the State in 1987 to SOGEAC.
